The AMWUA Board of Directors, after more than a year of deliberations, adopted Sustainability Policies on May 9, 2007, that are a commitment to the long-term sustainability of regional water supplies. Some of these policies require legislative action, so the AMWUA Board directed its staff to work with other interested parties to develop legislation to address these issues.
In December 2007, AMWUA staff began holding a series of meetings to identify the needs and interests of stakeholders. Steve Olson, AMWUA Executive Director, envisions identifying and evaluating potential solutions to the issues raised, determining which potential solutions have the consensus support of the stakeholders and which solutions should be pursued in the future.
Discussion among stakeholders, including representatives of a broad spectrum of entities, including regulators, water providers, developers, homebuilders and advocacy groups will identify issues important to interested parties, and develop legislative concepts and proposed legislation for the 2009 legislative session. |
