OPPORTUNITY: Legal Consulting Services
Arizona Municipal Water Users Association (AMWUA) invites proposals from qualified attorneys and law firms to provide legal consulting services for AMWUA.
AMWUA is a 501(c)(4) non-profit corporation governed by a Board of Directors composed of mayors and council members representing AMWUA’s ten member municipalities: Avondale, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, Goodyear, Peoria, Phoenix, Mesa, Scottsdale, and Tempe. AMWUA’s members collectively provide water to over 3.7 million people and to the businesses critical to Arizona’s economy. For over 50 years, AMWUA has worked with its members on water resources and policy issues and advocated on behalf of its members on legislation and administrative rules and policies. AMWUA does not represent its individual members in litigation or contract disputes.
As requested by the AMWUA Board or its Executive Director, under the supervision of the Executive Director, consulting services for AMWUA will include:
- Interpreting and advising on Arizona water law, including statutes, policies, rules, and case law.
- Advising on legal implications of proposed water legislation, policies, and rules.
- Advising on Arizona Open Meeting Laws issues.
- Advising on operational legal issues of a non-profit corporation.
- Attending meetings of the Board of Directors and the Management Board.
It is anticipated that legal consulting services for AMWUA will involve no more than 200 hours during a fiscal year, with hours varying from month to month.
If you are interested in providing these services, please submit a letter of interest that includes the following information:
- Your experience with Arizona water law, the Arizona Open Meeting Law, and non-profit corporations.
- Whether you represent any client that might have a conflict of interest with AMWUA and how that conflict would be addressed.
- A fee proposal based on an annual retainer.
- Three business references.
Please submit your letter or any questions to Warren Tenney at wtenney@amwua.org .
First review of letters of interest will be August 15, 2024.
